Uncslop games: what the meme means

Unc is slang for uncle, and online it means anyone a little older who is stuck in their ways. Put together, uncslop is the joke that the games people in their thirties call timeless classics are really just their generation’s comfort food.

The uncslop list is the Xbox 360, PS3 and mid-2000s PC era: Half-Life 2, Oblivion, New Vegas, Modern Warfare 2, World of Warcraft, Mass Effect, KOTOR and Team Fortress 2.

Slop is what the internet calls content people consume on autopilot, and the “xxxSLOP” meme pins that label on a generation’s favorite games: a wall of covers, the tier name in huge letters, and a wojak pointing at it. It is affectionate; most games on these lists are genuine classics.
